What I'm NOT Doing on My Fall Break.....

  • Staying at a casino in Vegas as Hubby and I had planned (and I came THIS CLOSE to booking, because I tend to do things like that freakishly far in advance) before our school board changed our school calendar
  • Participating in a multi-day bicycle ride because it doesn't occur until weekend after next, although it seems that the two events once occurred on the same weekend
  • Visiting my Sweet Girl, because I AM going down there in 25 days, and I can't wait to see her
  • Cleaning house
  • Taking a short trip to my marsh house in South Carolina, the one I chickened out of buying back in August and have regretted it almost every day since
  • Working on the book I have been writing, although I compose a chapter or two in my head almost every day
  • Renovating our house, and thank all the gods and divorce lawyers in the world for that
  • Getting a much-needed pedicure
  • Going to see my mother because I'm a HORRIBLE daughter
  • Wearing make-up. Or a bra

Fall Break ..... Yeah, Baby!......

For the past few years, our school system has had an entire week off for fall break. This year we started a week later, so our fall break is only 3 days: tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday. We are all so dang ready for a break that I'm not EVEN complaining that it's only 3 days. Being spread over a weekend makes it seem a little longer. Having Friday off is weird, though. I keep thinking I need to go fix my lunch and make sure I have something ready to wear tomorrow.

And then I think, "Sweet! I can sleep in!"

And then I remember, "Dang! Granny still has to pee first thing in the morning!"

Still, I don't have to get up at 5:00, and I can come back from Granny's and enjoy my coffee and read the paper.

Sometimes I try to pack so many activities into a school break that I feel like I need to go back to school just to get some rest. I've tried not to do that this time, but I'm still planning some fun things.

Rozmo and I are doing a bike ride tomorrow in one of the prettiest areas in our state, the same general area where our Spring Tune-Up ride takes place in April.

Saturday is a UGA home football game, and I hope to see my good friend Elizabeth, whom I haven't seen since we both left the same school in 2005. She has two beautiful girls and she's the only PERSON -- let alone WOMAN -- I've ever seen who can match Hubby beer for beer.

Sunday is an organized bike ride south of Atlanta. Katydid and I will be riding the tandem, and Rozmo is riding also.

Monday my only plans are to take Gus to the beauty shop. It's time for his every-other-month haircut and nail trimming. I'll also use that day to grocery shop and drop some pants off to be hemmed.

Tuesday I may have to take my mother-in-law to get a perm, and I'll have to stay there with her to move her from chair to chair. But that will be okay too. I'll take my crocheting or my iPad and keep myself occupied while I'm there. (If I can tune out the old-lady gossip. Which is sort of doubtful.)

We may not be taking the trip to Vegas we had tentatively planned, but I'll take a three-day break from school any old day.

Happy (early) weekend!

A Whole Week Off.....

I'm pretty sure we didn't have a "Fall Break" when I was in school. Neither did we have a whole week off for Thanksgiving, and I don't think we had an entire week for Spring Break.

But I'll take all of 'em.

Five whole days not to have to give retakes, reset homework, approve topic tests, or go over quizzes.

Five whole days not to have to hear the alarm go off at 5:00 AM. I don't mind if I wake up at 5:00 AM, as long as it isn't an alarm that does it.

Five whole days not to have to worry about packing my lunch or picking out something to wear.

Five whole days not to have to run students out of the hall and into classrooms. In our six years, this is the first group we've had that we've had that problem. We have such a young, immature bunch this year.

Hubby and I are taking the RV to a state park in Alabama for a couple of days. I'll still have to do my online teaching, but the beauty of that job is that I can do it anywhere.

Fall Break means we're one-fourth of the way through the school year. Not that I'm wishing my life away or anything....

Why.....

....does it seem that the week before a vacation week is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo long? It's only Tuesday, for heaven's sake.

It's not like we're going out of town or anything. Well, at least not until the end of next week, when Katydid and I will travel south for Georgia BikeFest. We are officially OVER sleeping in a tent, however, and will have a television for watching football, a hot shower, and comfortable beds.

Hubby and I won't even get to try out the motorhome THAT WE'RE GOING TO PICK UP ON SATURDAY WOO HOO!!!!! because he had his last vacation of the year last week. Actually, it's his last vacation EVER. The next time he doesn't have to go to work, it will be because he has retired.

I'm just ready for a break.

Planning My Life Away....

Hubby and I have planned our Fall Break to a casino in Mississippi in two weeks. (Whoever came up with the idea of a Fall Break for public schools, I think I'm in love with you!)

We have also planned our Spring Break trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It's the only place we've ever vacationed that hubby said he would like to go back to. He's loved every place we've been; he usually just thinks that with all the places in the world to see, once you've seen one you don't need to go back there. I, on the other hand, would vacation in Aruba every single year.

Katydid and I have planned an April trip to Nashville for the SEC gymnastics championships. Which makes me want gymnastics season to start. And I'm hoping our other sister will go with us too.

I feel like I have just wished/planned an entire year away. Sheesh, we're not even done with college football yet.
