Those Shorts Were Really Comfortable......

For those of you who don't know about cycling shorts, they are typically padded with a chamois. The chamois is not JUST to provide padding (however insufficient) between the .... body .... and the seat. It is also made of a fabric that wicks moisture away from the body. And you don't wear panties with them. Sorry, but there it is. Back in the days before we made the jump to real cycling clothes, a long ride in unpadded shorts and regular cotton panties could result in tremendous .... discomfort. Severe discomfort. Possibly even injury. The chamois pad makes for a strange look that is unique to cyclists. I wouldn't want to go grocery shopping wearing cycling shorts, but usually I'm among lots of people dressed just like me.

I was meeting Rozmo for a ride one day, and we both had to drive a couple of hours to the meeting point to ride the Silver Comet Trail. When I first pulled on my cycling shorts, I thought, "Wow. I don't remember these shorts being THAT comfortable. These really feel good." I loaded my bike, got my water and snacks, made sure my tires had air in them, and checked to see if I had the rare few dollars in cash. Just before leaving, I went to the bathroom one last time.

And that's when I discovered a sock I had been missing for a few weeks. The chamois in my cycling shorts had just enough static electricity in it that the sock had been there all along. So THAT'S the reason those shorts were so comfortable.

I may be on to something. Wonder if I can patent that?
